Lampworkers Bench Burner, This is a most unusual and rare unit! Read on:This is a unit primarily for soft glass and is true surface mix. See pic's 8 through 12 for its range with just city gas, air and two 5 liter 02 generators. Excellent cond. not a Carlisle, Knight, or Bethlehem IT's a late series Central Scientific (CENTCO). These were beautifully finished see the embossing on the polished tabs for gas/oxy/and beautiful and improved solid mounting platform.This unit has low, low burn time.It is near Mint BUTin shipping one of the plastic dialcaps was cracked (see closeup on right side) Obviously non affecting function and probably stronger than orginal but my descriptions are exact!Incredible all Brass casting, machining and valves, very hot and diverse. Has 3 center fire tips and a slide on cone. See picture of slide on cone removed with 3 tips. This is not the flame type of a cc or bethlehem It is more like an older true surface mix torch except with modern valves base and extremely tight machining specs. Everything just slides or hand tightens together. I would say that this is for primary soft glass But though most settings with air produce a soft flame by adjusting the Cone position (I get best results about 1" slid forward) and using mostly oxygen very HOT flames are produced. Essentially you must jump in and play with the 3 settings of Gas, Oxy and Air The main pressures are controlled by the big black dials, The Rhetostat looking bar on the top face of unit controls the mixture of air/gas but will at left simply also shut off the pressure. Of course the tip sz greatly control the center flame. The cone must be slid forward on the stainless steel shaft at least 3/4 " This also has a great effect on flame outcome. I've thrown in some shots of different settings.SEE CLOSEUPS ENGRAVING ETC. THIS IS BRASS MACHING NOT SEEN ON MODERN VERSIONS OF SAME DESIGN. *Please review my feedback for over 25 burners in the last year.The base is heavy and stable it has See pic's 11&12 It really works! I feel these are so superior to a ball and socket type or one with lg. breakable gears. Just tighten the 1/2 nut burner STAYS at any angle.The valves are smooth and modern needle seals they and the regulating bar are smooth as can be.near new versions of stopcock valves. This design has been used for years and years some say late 40's with little or no changes except valves. Like the Fender Stratocastor it was just about perfect from conception. Many makers have come and gone this I am quite certain Centco or sargent was probably the largest for 20 years, passing the torch (wordplay) to Carlisle and Knight. The workmanship on these is impeccable as I hope my meager photos show. Very hot and amazingly adjustable. I predict this design will still be the Industry standard in another 20 years.As my nickname is Torchkid for last 35 years I am of these units quite impassioned. I've a couple doz. high end sales scan my feedback all appreciative.
